Invisalign is a popular aligner, used to correct malocclusion (misalignment of the teeth). Here at Markham Dental, we want to provide a wide variety of the latest cutting-edge technology to help care for your oral health. In light of this, we offer Invisalign in Winnipeg. To help you determine whether or not Invisalign is right for you, we’ve compiled a brief list of frequently asked questions about the aligner.
Is Invisalign Invisible?
Not totally, but it’s as close as we’re likely to get until science can provide us with truly invisible solids. Invisalign is made of a transparent, flexible plastic. There are no brackets or wires – couple that with the see-through plastic, and a lot of folks probably won’t even notice you have them, unless they’re looking very carefully at your mouth.
Is Invisalign Better Than Braces?
Better is always subjective. For those looking for corrections to certain malocclusions, without the need for braces, and without people noticing their aligner, Invisalign can be a great choice; it’s particularly well suited to anyone that has a public or client facing career. That said, there are some malocclusions that can’t be corrected by Invisalign – for these, braces might be a better choice. When you stop by for a visit, we’ll do a full consultation, and determine whether or not Invisalign is right for you.
Does Invisalign Cost More Than Braces?
The price for Invisalign and the price for braces are fairly similar; Invisalign treatments might cost you a bit more, but the average price range for both braces and Invisalign is pretty comparable. To give a price range for either is difficult, because it depends very much on your mouth; every person is unique, so to get a price range, the best move is to ask your dentist.
Is Invisalign Right For Kids?
No. Invisalign is only appropriate for people who have all of their permanent teeth in; there’s Invisalign treatments available for teenagers, but younger children would need braces in order to correct malocclusion. This may mean it’s best to wait before getting the treatment done; talk to your dentist to see how urgently braces are needed, and talk to your child to determine their level of comfort.
Can I Remove My Invisalign Aligners?
Yes! One of the best advantages of Invisalign over traditional braces is that you can remove them; generally, you can remove them for 2 to 4 hours a day, giving you plenty of time to eat, or just enjoy a break from the aligner. You’ll still wear them when you sleep, but not having to worry about getting food in your braces is a huge relief.
What Can’t I Do With My Aligners?
You shouldn’t smoke with your aligners on; this can stain them, and that really obviates the point of an invisible aligner. You shouldn’t chew gum with your aligner on either – we’re here to fix teeth and chew bubblegum, and we’re all out of bubblegum (you can still chew gum with your aligners off, though).
